"An extremely valuable conference... information sharing and highlighting common problems with credible possible solutions"

David Fletcher, Quality, Safety and Security Manager, CMA Ships UK Ltd

Pre-Conference Workshops 11th October, 2010. Conference: 12th and 13th October 2010, London

  • Revised Piracy Intelligence Based On Latest Activity
  • New Cost Effective Preventative Measures
  • Up-to-the-minute Hijack Management Strategies

Security advice and piracy trends change as each ship is captured. Staying updated on the latest intelligence is extremely time consuming, on top of your already demanding role.

Combating Piracy Week is where the industry continues to gather to ensure their security policies are constantly renewed. At every meeting, marseq brings together lessons learned from the latest attacks to guarantee the continuous sharing of maritime security expertise. Following previous global meetings in London, Singapore and Hamburg, once again, key figures from the industry will gather at Combating Piracy Week from 11th - 14the October.

Top 10 reasons why you can’t miss Combating Piracy Week

1) You’ll hear the in-depth analysis behind Zodiac Maritime’s two recent hijackings. The Asian Glory (hijacked 28th December 09) and St James Park (hijacked 1st January 2010)

2) The crew of MV Taipan used a secure strong room to enable military forces to capture pirates. Find out why this decision was made and understand when it’s safe to use a citadel.

3) Chris Holtby is the Chairman of Working Group 1 (Operational Co-ordination/Regional Capability Development), Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia and will deliver an essential update on the current and planned International action to combat piracy in the short and longer term. When will these plans start to deliver results?

4) After revising the BMPs earlier this year, Philip Pascoe from OCIMF will reveal the latest amendments to the BMP guidelines.

5) You’ll receive essential military briefings on what future plans are in place for protection in 2011 and beyond. Hear from Capt. Chris Chambers, US Navy, Director, Combined Maritime Forces and Steve Paget, Director Above Water Battlespace, Dept. of National Defence - Canada

6) A unique opportunity to visit to The Maritime Security Centre (Horn of Africa) at Northwood. This is your chance to meet the team behind Operation Atalanta and see first hand the work that they are doing to protect your fleet.

7) What are the legal issues surrounding armed guards onboard vessels? Toby Stephens from Holman Fenwick Willan will assess what procedures must be put in place to manage armed guards onboard vessels.

8) Nigel Carden, Deputy Chairman, Thomas Miller P&I Ltd, Chairman, IGP&I Maritime Security Subcommittee will evaluate the impact of maritime piracy on insurance and examine how different insurers are reacting to the risks of piracy

9) Having invested in preventative measures to reduce their risk of attack, "K" Line LNG Shipping (UK) will reveal what anti-piracy processes they have in place.

10) Are the chances of attracting people to jobs at sea shrinking? Giles Noakes from BIMCO will share the latest thinking behind how to manage the human elements.

Each day is packed with critical guidance on the latest security measures and procedures. The evenings will be more relaxed with plenty of networking opportunities. Mark the week of 11th October "out of the office" – and join us at Combating Piracy Week!

Looking forward to seeing you all again in October.

Best wishes
